Pure Class-A Audio Power Amplifier with Green Concept
Operation of ideal class-A amplifier
Pure-balanced class-A amplifier operates at large bias current, which can produce a stereoscopic sound field easily. Such combination would create an excellent rendering deep into every detail and extremely real dynamics, as clear as a layer of mask being removed, yet without any harsh signs. Pure class-A amplifier has sweet, warm and rich tone color and better dynamics than class-AB amplifier. The transient current strengthens from zero gradually and returns to zero completely without any current residue. The control of pure class-A amplifier is as good as that of class-AB amplifier. The slight different in tone color can be rendered more clearly by pure class-A amplifier, and its middle frequency is more profound and the sound field is much wider too. Due to the high efficiency, easy design and manufacture, compliance with modern industrial specification and easy realization of volume production without complicated technologies, Class-AB amplifier has become the mainstream in audio market. Though pure class-A amplifier has lots of advantages in sound performance, it¡¦s not the mainstream in the modern audio market because of the difficult design and manufacture, high cost, and bad energy consumption efficiency of traditional class-A amplifier. So high-power pure class-A amplifier can only be seen in best-of-class high-price Hi-End equipments (e.g. Pass XA200 Pure Class-A Amplifier sold at the price of about 1,750,000 NTD).
However, the low-power pure class-A amplifier emerges in the market in the form of small vaccum tube and wins the heart of many audiophiles.

In the 2009 Kaohsiung Hi End Show (3/26-3/30), mini Zenith publicized a state-of-art pure class-A amplifier (mz-APOLLO) which can be compared with the microcomputer servo.
